How I Rate CDramas

Every review on this site uses the same rating system, so once you’ve seen it once, you’ll know exactly what any score means anywhere on the site. There are three layers, and they’re each measuring something different on purpose. All ratings are subjective.

The General Review Ratings

These appear in every General Review and measure the show as a whole.

Plot Density (1-5)

Plot Density measures how complex and inventive the storyline is, not how good it is. A high score just means more happening on screen, not a better story.

1 — Simple & Predictable. Straightforward, comfort-watch territory.

2 — Familiar Formula. Competent, but not surprising.

3 — Layered & Engaging. Multiple threads that connect, plus at least one real turn.

4 — Dense & Inventive. Complex, with genuine structural swings.

5 — Labyrinth & Genre-Defying. Twists stacked on twists, still thinking about it after it ends.

Romance Intensity (1-5)

Romance Intensity measures how much heat and depth the relationship has, not how good the romance is. A high score just means more happening between the leads, love, chemistry, intimacy, and tension all at once, not that it’s better written or more satisfying than a quieter romance.

1 — Slow Simmer Feelings are there but understated. Minimal physical contact, mostly longing glances and unspoken tension. Chemistry exists but stays quiet.

2 — Warming Up Some real tension and a few charged moments, but still restrained — hand-holding, maybe a hesitant near-kiss. You feel it building, not arriving.

3 — Genuine Heat Clear chemistry, real kissing, and tension that actually pays off. Deep emotional connection is on screen, not just implied.

4 — Sizzling Strong physical chemistry and frequent intimacy — kissing scenes that land, real tension between leads that crackles in every shared scene. Deep love that’s shown, not just told.

5 — All-Consuming Everything at full volume: deep, obsessive love, constant intense chemistry, generous intimacy and kissing, tension so thick it carries entire episodes. The kind of romance you replay scenes for.

Comedy Level (1-5, plus a style tag)

Comedy Level measures how much comedy the show leans on, not how funny it actually is. A high score just means comedy shows up more often, not that it lands well, the style tag tells you what kind to expect, but whether it’s genuinely good is a call left to the review text itself.

1 — No Comedy. Played completely straight.

2 — Low. The occasional light line.

3 — Medium. Regular, but not dominant.

4 — High. A frequent, defining presence.

5 — Full Comedy. Near constant, high energy.

Style tag examples:

Witty — Sharp, clever, dialogue-driven. Humour built on quick wit and banter rather than physical comedy.

Subtle — Understated and dry. Comedy that lives in timing and reaction rather than a punchline.

Slapstick — Broad, physical, exaggerated. Pratfalls, chaos, and over-the-top reactions.

Silly — Absurd and self-aware. Leans fully into the ridiculousness of a moment or premise on purpose.

The Romance Review Ratings

These appear in every dedicated Romance Review, and they’re about the central relationship, not the plot around it. If the 2^nd CP is also good, they may be included. Each one runs 1 to 5, with the full breakdown of what each number means laid out inside every Romance Review itself.

Worth the Wait — did the first kiss or big romantic payoff actually deliver?

Sizzle Factor — the chemistry between the leads.

Soft Moments Score — the quiet, tender warmth beyond the physical tension.

Devotion Meter — how hard one lead falls, and how far they go to show it.

Confession Scene Rating — whether the “I love you” moment actually landed.

The Overall Score

This is the number out of 10 at the bottom of every review, and it’s deliberately not a formula. I don’t average the ratings above to get it. It’s my honest, whole-picture answer to “is this worth your time,” weighing the plot, the romance, the acting, the pacing, and how much I’d actually rewatch it, together, the way I’d answer a friend who just wants a straight recommendation.

1-5 — No Review. If a drama lands here, you won’t find a review for it on this site at all. Either I dropped it partway through, or it simply didn’t hold my attention enough to finish, and I don’t think it’s fair to write a full breakdown of something I didn’t actually complete. I’d rather spend that time and space on shows worth your time.

6 — Watchable. Finished it, and it did its job, but nothing here is going to stick with me. Fine for background viewing or filling a gap between better shows.

7 — Good. A genuinely enjoyable watch with real strengths, even if something (pacing, a weak stretch, an underdeveloped thread) keeps it from going further. I’d recommend it with a caveat attached.

8 — Great. Consistently well done across the board, strong writing, strong performances, few real complaints. This is where a drama starts to earn an unprompted recommendation from me.

9 — Excellent. One of the better dramas I’ve watched in its category, genuinely hard to find real fault with. At least one or two of the “what pushes a score up” signals below show up clearly here.

10 — All-Time Favorite. The rare few I’d recommend to anyone, no caveats, no “if you like this genre.” Several of the signals above all land at once, and I mean it when I say I think about this one long after finishing.

What actually pushes a score into the 8-10 range: It’s never just “the plot was good” or “the leads had chemistry,” those are baseline expectations, not what separates a great drama from an unforgettable one.

What genuinely earns the top scores:

Something I hadn’t seen done this way before, a structural choice, a twist, a genre mashup, that made the drama feel distinct rather than familiar.
It got a real reaction out of me, actual tears, actual laughing out loud, not just “that was sweet.”
A scene or subplot I kept thinking about after finishing, the kind of detail that pops back into my head days later unprompted.
I actually rewatched something, a scene, an episode, sometimes the whole thing, because I wanted to sit in it again.
I’d recommend it to someone without being asked. If a drama comes up in casual conversation and I bring this one up unprompted, that says more than any rating could.
