Road To Success Episode 9 Recap
Romance
Yu Bo shows up teasing Wang Fa about the state of his clothes and the fact that Wanxing’s apartment doesn’t even have a bathtub, curious how she managed to fix his insomnia so completely. Wang Fa keeps it vague, chalking it up to aromatherapy.
When talk turns to the actual investigation, he admits there’s an eighty percent match between her and Spade Q, though he still won’t call it definitive. Yu Bo calls out the contradiction outright, suspicious of her one moment, defending her the next, and it’s clear Wang Fa himself hasn’t fully reconciled the two.
The Match Strategy
Training shifts into real tactical territory, with Wang Fa breaking down Lyujing’s weaknesses and shifting the team into a defensive 4-5-1 formation to compress their attacking space. It’s a big ask for a team still learning to think rather than just follow orders.
It doesnโt help when Wen Chengye’s sharp tongue nearly sparks a fight when Qin Ao struggles to grasp the setup. Still, there’s real momentum building, Wang Fa even notes to Wanxing that Wen Chengye’s arrival has injected the whole squad with fresh energy.
Fu Xinshu’s Mother
A call from his mother sets up the episode’s real emotional core. She claims she needs money for surgery, and despite having almost nothing left, Fu Xinshu sends her his entire inheritance from his late grandfather, thrilled when she promises to come watch him play. He even buys her a gift for the occasion.
The Match
On match day, Wang Fa doesn’t show up on the sidelines at all, watching instead from the second-floor stands with an iced coffee, a deliberate choice he explains to his sister as not wanting to seem more permanent to the team than he actually is. The boys are furious.
It’s a tense, low-scoring first half, the team boxed into their own half with no real offense. But midway through the second half, Fu Xinshu remembers Wang Fa’s lesson about thinking rather than blindly obeying, and calls an on-the-fly formation shift to 4-4-2.
It works. A well-earned goal off a chain of passes through Wen Chengye and Chen Jianghe seals a hard-fought 1-0 win, and Wang Fa watches from above, quietly proud his players finally got it.
Fu Xinshu Mother Betrayal Secene
The celebration curdles fast when Fu Xinshu’s mother never shows and stops answering his calls. Worried, Wanxing and Wang Fa join him in searching for her, and they find her walking home with his young half-brother, who’s holding an expensive new violin.
The truth comes out cold, there was no surgery, the money went straight to the instrument. Every promised visit, it turns out, was never more than a means to get money out of him. She begs him, in tears, to stop looking for her, blaming her husband’s anger at even hearing Fu Xinshu’s name.

Road To Success Episode 10 Recap
A Crisis Averted
Fu Xinshu’s grief boils over into real despair. A flashback fills in the deeper wound, his mother chose remarriage and money over him long before this latest betrayal, and now, standing frozen in the middle of a busy road, he’s ready to give up entirely.
Wanxing lunges to pull him clear of an oncoming car, saving him but hurting her arm in the process. At the hospital, Wang Fa’s anger at the boy is really grief in disguise, a lecture about how running from pain only devastates the people who genuinely care.
Once her wound is treated, Wanxing takes a gentler approach, encouraging Fu Xinshu to stop being endlessly accommodating and actually feel things. He breaks down, and she convinces him that real healing means confronting his mother properly rather than carrying the wound quietly.
They track her down together, and the conversation finally strips away every illusion he’d been clinging to. She admits, plainly, that debt and a controlling husband shaped every choice she’s made. Fu Xinshu accepts it for what it is, tells her he’s grown up, and chooses to walk away on his own terms rather than keep chasing her approval.
Romance; Jasmine Safflower Oil Scene
A hotel mix-up leaves the team stranded until Wang Fa pulls strings to secure rooms at a luxury property, and later, when Wen Chengye needs a ride to the train station, Wang Fa volunteers himself. Their exchange is telling, Wen Chengye brushes off any suggestion he stayed late out of concern for Fu Xinshu, though it’s obvious he did. Wang Fa quietly follows up afterward with a call to Fu Xinshu’s mother, and it works, she transfers the stolen money back.
Outside the restaurant that night, Wang Fa finds Wanxing nursing her injured arm and insists on treating it with safflower oil, rubbing it in gently while their teammates tease them for looking like a couple on honeymoon.
In this moment, he finally opens up about his past for the first time, a former football student named Jason in London, someone he fought hard for, invested everything in. It’s the most vulnerable he’s been with her all series.
When he asks what she was thinking jumping in front of that car, her answer, pure instinct, no hesitation, clearly rattles something loose in him, someone willing to risk their life without thinking twice doesn’t fit the calculating image of Spade Q he’s been chasing.
Their quiet moment gets interrupted by the happy news that Fu Xinshu’s money is back, and Wanxing puts it together immediately, this was Wang Fa’s doing all along. She looks at him with real admiration. She is struck by how thorough and thoughtful he is, even while insisting he won’t be sticking around for long.
Later, walking home alone, Wanxing senses someone following her and texts Wang Fa in a panic. He appears at just the right moment, pulling her close and covering her mouth to keep her silent.
General
Elsewhere, Wang Fa’s sister, Wang Tian, who runs the cityโs best youth football program, is looking for a new coach. Her agent recommends a coach who has just come back from the UK, unaware the mysterious “Mr. Win” is actually her brother.
Back at school, a wave of parental backlash threatens to shut the team down entirely, worried the sport is distracting from college prep. Wanxing pushes back with real data, showing the boys’ grades haven’t actually suffered. When that’s not enough, she makes an audacious bet of her own, promising every player will crack the top 500 in rank by the next exam so they can still keep playing.
The team is thrilled by the team’s survival, then immediately panics at the scale of what she’s just signed them up for.

Road To Success Episodes 9-10 Recap: My Thoughts
Episode 9: This episode swings from one of the show’s most satisfying victories to one of its most gutting gut-punches, and it earns both. The match itself is convincing and the formation shift landing as a real payoff of everything Wang Fa’s been teaching, not just a lucky break.
But it’s Fu Xinshu’s storyline that lingers. Watching him hand over every cent he had left in the world, only to learn it bought someone else’s happiness instead, is heartbreaking in exactly the way it’s meant to be, and the quiet devastation on both Wanxing’s and Wang Fa’s faces watching from a distance says everything neither of them needs to put into words.
Episode 10:This is a massive episode for the romance, and the shift is significant. Wang Fa opening up about Jason is the clearest signal yet that his walls are actually coming down, not just softening around the edges.
Wanxing’s instinctive act of saving Fu Xinshu seems to have permanently cracked his suspicion of her. His gracious act of buying medicine and gently rubbing her hand for a fair period of time showed his soft side and caring nature.
The Fu Xinshu and his mother storyline reach a satisfying, hard-won conclusion too. Watching him choose peace over closure-through-reconciliation feels like real growth rather than a cop out. Liu Junโs acting here is top notch. The devastation is real and the sobbing is great acting. I felt every bit of that abandonment. Like most high school sport tropes, they tend to hone in on student trauma and we just got our first one.
