Affinity: Episode Recap 13-14

A drugging leaves Xie Xinxu temporarily powerless, and he and Wu Nongyu get kidnapped by his own “fan club,” former escapees who worship him as a founder figure. What follows is a genuinely hilarious Western-set hostage situation, complete with Max jealousy subplot and staged threats, before episode 14 escalates into a real standoff, an attempted rescue gone sideways, a fake bond-forming scene born purely out of a fight, and Xie Xinxu quietly guarding her all night without sleeping.
Affinity Episode Recap: 13
Xie Xinxu wants to resist. He can’t. The restaurant owner drugged his drink, a powder that suppresses the blade virus and knocks him down to ordinary-human levels for five days. The owner doesn’t care about any of that, he just wants his money, QR code and all.
Then masked people storm in and drag both of them away. Li Xiang tries to help from outside but Lin Juan stops her. They follow the car instead. Turns out the kidnappers are actually Xie Xinxu’s own fans, former Bureau escapees who idolize him. The leader Max is thrilled to learn that they had unknowingly stumbled across Xie Xinxu.
One of them, Max, notices Xie Xinxu’s face is injured and furiously shoots the person responsible, reminding everyone who he actually is. Their gang’s flag even matches the birthmark he has on his shoulder. This scene had me roaring. The extras’ acting is genuinely terrible.
The whole “fan meeting their idol” framing is so weird. Jokingly Wu Nongyu asking if he just made his debut. She then also asks about starting a company, and him replying “I just found out too,” genuinely got me.
Max wants him to stay and help grow the place. He’s rude to Wu Nongyu, has her taken to a private room instead. That night, Xie Xinxu comes back to find someone under a quilt on his bed, assumes it’s her and starts explaining himself. No response. He pulls the quilt back and finds she’s been drugged by Max, hands tied.
She urges him to switch rooms, worried his suppressed state means his instincts could break loose uncontrolled. He refuses to leave her. She tries to force herself into another room anyway, he hugs her from behind, notices her clothes slipping, and carefully fixes them instead.
He wants to bathe her to help flush the drug out. She goes limp in his arms, murmurs for his help. He promises anything she needs. Genuinely sensual scene, a lot of restraint required from him here. She asks for water. While he’s out getting it, he hears a splash.
He rushes back, she’s jumped into the cold bathtub, not wanting to be a burden to anyone. If you’re looking for the Affinity bathtub scene, its here ins Episode 13. Worried she’ll catch a chill, he climbs in too, holding her steady. Genuinely beautifully shot. Watching her sleep afterward, hand in hers, he feels a sharp pain in his chest and wonders if Director Ding’s pills are finally kicking in. Takes another one.
Next morning, Max makes them breakfast, visibly jealous watching how attentive Xie Xinxu is toward her. She notices his jealousy and can’t help smiling. A servant interrupts with news. Max steps out and two gunshots ring out. He comes back explaining two employees just “resigned.” They keep eating breakfast like nothing happened.
She knows exactly what that was. Another plate of vegetables arrives, which she’s not thrilled about, and while poking at it she finds a note with a license plate number hidden inside. This entire Western detour is such a weird, comical vibe, I genuinely don’t know what it has to do with the actual plot, but the entertainment value is real.
Affinity Episode Recap: 14
She passes Xie Xinxu the plate number, from Lin Juan, hoping it means rescue. He plans to make a break for it. She fakes an upset stomach and needs the hospital. We’re apparently in 2051 and still using wheelchairs, hahaha. Max pushes the chair himself, all sincerity, right up until the elevator, where he tells Xie Xinxu there was no need for him.
Xie Xinxu tries to follow but gets held at gunpoint and has to trust Max grudgingly. In the elevator, Max blames her for getting sick at the worst possible moment. She tells him flatly that she and Xie Xinxu are only allied because of the virus, no real feelings involved. Worried she’s in danger, Xie Xinxu rushes downstairs anyway. Thankfully she’s fine and he gets in the car with her.
The drivers are Li Xiang and Lin Juan. Midway through the drive, Xie Xinxu suddenly injects both of them with tranquilizer. Turns out Max’s people already knew about the rescue plan, that’s why they’d split them up in the first place.
They use her as leverage, demand he bring back the Bureau’s two strongest people for Max. He complies to keep her safe. Everyone ends up back in the mansion, Max fails to sway Lin Juan or Xie Xinxu, and demands Wu Nongyu kill them herself instead.
Wu Nongyu has never shot a gun before so Xie Xinxu pulls her close, aims her hand and the gun at Lin Juan, deliberately misses, plays it off as her bad aim, then carries her back to their room. She’s furious, thinks he doesn’t care about anyone’s life but his own, but she does care.
She also accuses him of everything being about forming the bond and nothing more. He’s genuinely hurt she’d think that of him. Would he even feel that hurt if he weren’t temporarily human and dosed on emotion pills right now?
She sulks, says she’d have picked Lin Juan if she’d known it would come to this. He’s furious and realizes she’s baiting him on purpose. She tears her own clothes open, tells him to skip the buildup and just get to the point of the bond.
In a rage, he pulls her onto the bed, deliberately proposes forming it right then. She cries as he leans in. The bit where she kicks him in the chest and he just grabs her leg and pulls her right back under him is so good.
She pulls out the pendant he gave her and aims it at his neck as a pre-caution. He stops in time, warns her not to try that stunt again. Next morning, she wakes up alone, breakfast waiting, and he springs up off the floor the second she reaches for it.
She notices the dark circles under his eyes, he hasn’t slept all night. That’s when Max shows up to take them somewhere new.
Affinity Episode Recap 13-14: My Thoughts
This is genuinely the most chaotic and the most emotionally loaded batch yet, and somehow both halves work. The fan-cult kidnapping is peak absurdity, the acting is rough, the framing is bizarre, and I laughed harder at this stretch than almost anything else in the show so far.
But underneath the comedy, the bathtub scene is one of the most tender, well shot moments between them, real restraint, real care, no games. Episode 14 flips it entirely, watching her deliberately provoke him into a fake bond scene out of pure hurt and anger.
His devastation at being accused of only wanting her for the bond lands harder than I expected, especially knowing he’s temporarily human right now and feeling all of it raw. Him sleeping on the floor all night just to watch over her says more than anything either of them said out loud this episode.
Absolute rollercoaster of a batch, moving from dystopian to western and I mean that as the highest praise.
