Affinity Episode Recap: 33
She’s ready to write him out of her story. He’s not ready to let that happen. Waking in the car beside her restless sleep, he whispers a promise, if she won’t wake up, he’ll simply live in her dreams instead, and takes her hand before going back under with her.
She finds herself back in his old home, watching his past play out in front of her. A younger version of him corners his parents’ killer, and the man begs, claiming he only killed them in a berserk loss of control. No mercy comes, just death, and she watches, torn between horror and pity for the man he became.
She tries to escape into a new dream, but the nightmare shifts instead. He’s chained up, playing victim, until suddenly he’s the aggressor, turning on her brother, choking him, stabbing him. She watches him drag Siyuan’s body away, and the scene warps into the exact ruins where he actually died.
The cycle loops. She steps in this time and forces him to really look at who he’s attacking over and over. It’s his own face. Standing in the wreckage, she finally understands, every act of revenge, against the killer, against the man who trained him, has really been a wound turned inward. Hating him further would just trap her in this same nightmare forever, so she chooses to break it instead, takes his hand, and pulls him out.
They share one last soft look. Light swallows them both. They wake up in the car together, and he holds her tight. She suggests, gently, that they’re both too exhausted to keep fighting, that letting go might be the only way forward, and he agrees, quietly.
Before parting, he clears one thing up. Siyuan never killed his parents, that was a Ren who lost control, and Siyuan was just following Director Xia’s orders. It eases something between them. As he helps her pack, he’s meticulous, organizing her medication down to the last pill, liver tablets for late nights, vitamin C, stomach medicine, medication to delay her viral outbreaks, and tells her to call if anything feels wrong. She cries.
Glad he found another way to show her his inner world, though the resolution does feel a little rushed given everything they’ve been through. Still, at least she’s awake.
Their last night together, she suggests they indulge one final time. Lying in bed, he asks her to rate her hatred for him, one to ten. She says ten, then adds, without missing a beat, that her love is a ten too. Peak love hate territory, she calls it. How does anyone move past that, so in love and so wounded at the same time? Time apart is probably exactly what they both need.
He thanks her for the suspended sentence instead of the death penalty, for giving their memories a chance to outlast the pain. They spend the rest of the night together and they finally complete the bond physically. Morning comes. She’s already gone.
Six months pass. She’s a PhD student now, chasing a cure which was always what she wanted to do. Leaving the lab one afternoon, two colleagues invite her to a welcome dinner. She declines, spots Lin Juan waiting for her, and tells them her boyfriend’s here to pick her up.
I’m sorry, WHAT? Bring on the next episode immediately. Since when is Lin Juan her boyfriend??

Affinity Episode Recap: 34
Turns out it’s a favour, not a relationship. She thanks him for keeping up the boyfriend act to fend off unwanted suitors. He’d happily make it real, but she reminds him she’s technically still married, separation or not. He accepts it for now and asks a small favour back, keep his candy jar full. She points out she just refilled it but reminds her that was a month ago.
Living next door now, he shows up daily for meals, and she realizes it’s really about a promise made to her brother, telling him gently he doesn’t need to take it quite so seriously. She jokes he should pay for the food. He offers to sell himself instead, lifetime warranty included.
Talk turns to the last fragment, likely somewhere in Xiaoshan Village which was once a tourist draw but now avoided over ghost rumours. She’s sceptical of the supernatural angle, but they plan a guide and supplies anyway. Lin Juan reminds her it’s the tenth of the month which is injection day, and she wants to push it back until after the mission, worried the sedative side effect might knock her out at the wrong moment.
Xie Xinxu also catches wind that the last fragment is in Xiaoshan Village. He heads there only to see Wu Nongyu in a restaurant. He watches her for a while from a distance and chooses not to approach her.
Mid meal, Qiqi shows up with her husband and teases Nongyu about her companion. Nongyu helps them snap a photo. Moments later, she thinks she catches sight of Xie Xinxu, rushes toward him, and grabs an arm, only to find it’s just the guide.
The guide offers a discounted private rate to skip his boss, but when he finds out they want to be taken into the village, he declines. But once Lin Juan pays twenty thousand for restricted access, the guide brags about being a workaholic willing to risk anything for the job.
Hiking up, he notices her exhaustion, and Lin Juan blames the skipped injection. Then a phone call to the guide changes the mood entirely, the caller describes them in perfect detail and asks for their location. Someone’s tracking them, likely the Bureau, and they scramble to hide.
A group in black shows up. Lin Juan wants to lure them off, but she stops him, worried his drug resistance could tip him into losing control mid fight. Another figure in black beats them to it, successfully drawing the pursuers away. The rescuer retreats but as Nongyu watches him disappear into the trees, something feels deeply familiar. It’s him.
Xie Xinxu fends off the attackers, but it costs him. Three inhibitors in and he’s still critical. Sensing something’s wrong, she rushes back to check, arriving just as Zhang and two more Ren from the Bureau close in on him, weak and barely standing. She hurls a rock and drops one attacker cold.
Barely upright, he pulls her into a brief, relieved embrace while Lin Juan watches quietly. The moment doesn’t last, three more figures emerge from the trees, and Lin Juan steps in front of both of them to take the hit first.
The fight itself slid right back into full B grade territory, but honestly, it didn’t matter. I knew the reunion was coming and it delivered exactly what I needed, him sobbing into the embrace, her just happy to finally be back at his side. Thank you, writers, for not making me wait another episode for that.

Affinity Episode Recap 33-34: My Thoughts
This stretch closes out the dream arc with real emotional payoff, and watching Xie Xinxu finally show her his cycle of self-inflicted revenge instead of just telling her about it lands as the most honest thing he’s done in the whole show. The love hate confession is one of the most human moments the writing’s given her, refusing to pretend the pain and the love cancel each other out.
Then the show yanks the rug clean out from under me with Lin Juan playing fake boyfriend, and I genuinely didn’t see that coming, even knowing this show has never met a twist it didn’t want to throw at me.
The village mission swings hard back into chaos and ghost story theatrics, but none of it mattered once that reunion hit. After everything these two have survived, watching him finally break down holding her again felt completely satisfying, and I’m just relieved the show didn’t drag it out any longer than it needed to.
