TL;DR (Quick Overview)
Both families reach genuine, hard-won turning points in this episode, Gui Xiao’s parents finally finalizing their divorce with real dignity, while Yanchen’s father, facing the same paperwork, chooses something entirely different, real change instead of walking away. It’s a rare episode where every parent involved comes out the other side better than they went in.
A Loving Gesture
Before Yanchen leaves to see his mother, Gui Xiao, ever the thoughtful daughter-in-law, loads the car with a whole trunk of gifts for her. She offers to come along, but Yanchen tells her to stay home instead, heading to the repair shop alone since his mother’s essentially moved out of the house and been staying there.
A Difficult Conversation
Finding her there, Yanchen presents his mother with divorce papers, telling her plainly it’s time. She hesitates, despite having gone through this once before, admitting she doesn’t fully understand the process.
He tells her gently to take her time reading through it, and heads off to cook her something to eat while she does. When she tries to help in the kitchen, he waves her off entirely. Bringing the food to her room afterward, he finds she’s signed the papers, and tells her he’s going to see his father next.

A Confident Farewell
Meanwhile, Shen Jin meets Gui Yanshan at a restaurant, and he finally signs their own divorce papers, asking, almost disbelieving, if she truly wants nothing from him. She confirms she doesn’t. He admits he has a thousand things he wants to say, though nothing actually comes to mind, and she can’t resist a wry observation, how strange it is that a man once so drawn to younger women now wants her back, older now herself.
Once it’s done, she walks away with total confidence. His assistant warns her that Gui Yanshan runs a publicly listed company, clearly worried about reputational fallout, and she reassures him plainly, it was never her intention to make this difficult or public for him.
A Careful Approach
Yanchen invites his father to Xiaoshan and Qin Feng’s restaurant, and Qin Feng does his part keeping the mood light, serving low-alcohol wine to avoid any drunken outbursts. Sitting down with him directly, Yanchen brings up the divorce and hands over the paperwork, reassuring him only immediate family knows. Lu Zheng is genuinely surprised she actually signed it this time.
A Real Choice
Yanchen points out that they’ve been through this before, but this time, she’s the one choosing to finally let him go, whereas in the past, he’d always insisted he couldn’t live without her, now the choice belongs entirely to her. His father insists this is between him and her, that he needs to speak with her directly, worried about who’ll support and care for her as she ages.
Yanchen lays it out plainly, he has to choose, let her go for good, or actually commit to living the rest of his life well, together with her. Considering it, his father quietly puts the papers back in the bag, unsigned.
Yanchen pours them both wine, and they toast. His father asks when he’ll finally meet his new daughter-in-law, and Yanchen explains he didn’t bring her this time given they were discussing the divorce, but promises they’ll meet properly soon.
He also mentions that while he was away, it was Gui Xiao who stepped up entirely to care for their mother during her hospital stay, since no one else could. His father acknowledges it. They toast again. Qin Feng offers to drive him home, but he declines, choosing to walk instead.
A Genuine Turning Point
Walking back to the repair shop, Lu Zheng finds Gong Lin eating the lunch Yanchen had cooked for her. He tells her honestly that he knows she suffered a great deal after marrying him, and admits, with real humility, that perhaps the one good thing he ever did was remarrying her and bringing her children into their home.
She thanks him plainly, she’d had children with no income of her own at the time. He deflects the thanks, at least two of the three children were actually theirs. She warns him gently to drink less, since there’ll be no one left to care for him otherwise, and he tells her that’s exactly what he wants to discuss.
At their age, he says, he doesn’t think they should separate at all. From now on, he wants her running the household, holding him properly accountable for his temper, while he commits to improving. She cries, overwhelmed with happiness.
A Family Meal
Genuinely light-hearted for once, Lu Zheng tells everyone at the shop to finish early so they can order food from Xiaoshanโs restaurant and eat together as a group. Gong Lin doesnโt want take away and wants to cook instead. When Lu Tongtong arrives and she is ushered to buy groceries, she asks her mother is she was ok. She confirms she’s simply, genuinely happy today.
An Overdue Thank You
Before heading back to Gui Xiao ahead of his return to Tianwen the next day, Yanchen asks Hai Dong to keep an eye on his parents during their dinner. Hai Dong’s reluctant, admitting he’s always been afraid of Lu Zheng, who’s constantly pressured him into drinking over the years.
He goes anyway, and Lu Tongtong reassures him their father’s in an unusually good mood tonight. Lu Zheng greets him warmly, inviting him to sit close, asking his age, and then, to Hai Dong’s utter shock, formally and sincerely thanks him for years of quiet loyalty and support to the family, brushing off Hai Dong’s insistence that it was simply what any neighbour would do.

A Quiet Homecoming
Back home, Yanchen admits feeling guilty for not spending more of the day with Gui Xiao, and she brushes it off entirely, reminding him that looking after family always comes first. He asks about her own parents, and she reports her father took the divorce hard, while her mother seems satisfied with how things turned out.
Great End to the Day
Reading the smile on his face, she guesses correctly that everything went well on his end too, and he confirms it, hopeful, for now, that things are finally settling for both families. Relieved to finally focus on their own life together, they fall into easy playfulness, embracing in a deep, unhurried kiss.
Road Home Episode 25 Recap: My Thoughts
As we head toward the homestretch of this series, it’s genuinely funny watching things settle down with the parents this way, the kids get married, then turn around and help their own parents get divorced. What a strange, upside-down world these families have built.
I’m glad Gui Xiao’s mother finally gets the peace and closure she clearly needed, that unresolved weight had been hanging over her for so long. She’d already fully let go of her father emotionally, and while part of me hoped for a small reconciliation, too much has genuinely changed between them for that to make sense anymore.
I was really happy watching Yanchen’s family settle too. That moment between father and son felt genuinely earned, and something must have shifted in his father to realize how pointless divorcing again would actually be at their age, especially given this is already his second marriage. I’m hoping this newfound peace actually lasts.
I’ve also noticed this drama gives real space to intimacy between the couple, subtle, never explicit, but clearly present, and I love that it’s consistently Gui Xiao who’s the cheeky one initiating it.
Fans went wild over that open-door shower scene, and honestly, I get it, the sheer comfort and playful confidence between these two says everything about how far their relationship’s come. I also found it genuinely endearing watching Yanchen eat so little at dinner once Gui Xiao under-bought ingredients, quietly making sure there’d be enough left for her and Xiaonan first. That’s real husband material energy right there.
The resolution with Yanchen’s father was such a relief for the whole fandom too. Watching him completely transform, even stepping up to sincerely thank Hai Dong after years of quiet support, was such a pleasant surprise after everything this family’s been through. And I loved that quiet moment with the ten small dolls he brings home for Gui Xiao, such a lovely, understated visual for how deliberately these two are piecing their lives back together after ten years apart.
